My original idea for the text+image collage project we had was to document Detroit as a whole, but while I was out filming skateboarding throughout the streets, I decided to take some pictures. I was told to look for shapes that would give us good relationship lines. While studying the structures I started to look closely at the materials, build quality, cracks and textures. It made me think about all the spots we have gone to and the difference in areas in Detroit. Some of it has a very live and welcoming community with beautiful structures and a lot of life while other areas feel like ghost towns and everything is abandoned and run down. Now just imagine if the whole city felt like the areas that are full of life? So I tried to incorporate this concept and message into the design.
Most of the design was done by hand using a printer and creating 5 rough collages. The ink started to get low on certain prints and gave me a faded image effect which just happened to add to my original message.
