For this design, we were prompted to design book covers for a series of books and make the designs unified. We were told we could design them in anyway we want using any medium or program. I chose to use the books “The Shining” and the sequel “Doctor Sleep”. I wanted to approach this design in a similar way as my Detroit Posters, but incorporate something new this time.
I used the same sliding and pulling techniques during the scan to create tv static glitch lines. I also shined a light through the paper at the same time to brighting up certain areas and give a sort of real lighting effect like you see in the hallway lights on the left. When editing in photoshop after, I changed the levels of red and blue when turning it black and white which gave the lines across the design. After this I added some final details in Photoshop, then created the book designs and mock ups in Illustrator.
